If you look around in your own neighborhood, chances are that you will find various rope light installations. Rope lights have revolutionized the lighting industry in general and can be used in many different applications. Rope lights are miniature light bulbs encased in a PVC tubing. They are affordable and fairly easy to install. There are a few types of rope lights such as chasing rope light, incandescent rope light and even led rope light. There are a few differences between the various types of rope light and we will try to explain them to you now.
First of all, you can order rope light in various voltages for your application. We sell 12 volt rope light, 24 volt rope light and even 120 volt rope light as well. In applications such as landscape, automobile, RV and boat lighting most people use either the 12 volt rope light or 24 volt rope light. When you use low voltage rope light it is important that you properly wire and understand the power that is needed. If you need help please contact us and we can assist you in determining the power that you need and we can also tell you if you need to install resistors as well. In applications around your home or business where standard electrical plugs are available, people choose the standard 120 volt rope lights.
Second is the difference between incandescent rope light and led rope light. Most of the incandescent rope light consumes less than 3 watts of electricity per foot and the led rope light consumes about a 1/2 of watt of electricity per foot. So the led rope light does save you on electrical costs in the long run. Another difference between the incandescent rope light and the led rope light is the amount of heat the rope lights produce. Incandescent rope light produces a byproduct of heat and should not be installed in areas where heat buildup is an issue. Led rope light uses led technology and produces very little heat and is perfect for applications where heat is a concern. Incandescent rope light will need to be replaced more often than led rope light as well.
Incandescent rope light uses white light bulbs and the outer PVC jacket is either clear or colored. Led rope light PVC jacket is always clear with colored light bulbs. So for example, if you order blue incandescent rope light and blue led rope light you will notice that the incandescent rope light has white light bulbs and a blue outer PVC covering and the led rope light has blue led light bulbs with a clear outer PVC covering. With that being said since led rope light always has a clear outer jacket it is naturally brighter.
